Surrey County Council (SCC) is consulting on a proposal to reduce the speed limit on the A31 Farnham bypass to 40 MPH over the section near to Hickley’s Corner.
Police records from the 3 years to 27/8/2026 record 12 collisions at the junction, resulting in 1 fatality, 3 serious injuries and 13 slight injuries. Numerous of these involved pedestrians moving between the town and the railway station. There has also been a petition by local residents asking for action to be taken.
SCC propose that the temporary 40 MPH speed limit for traffic heading east from Hickley’s Corner be made permanent, so as to create a 40 MPH limit over the central section of the bypass; and the limit for westbound traffic be reduced to 40 MPH over the same stretch of road.
SCC are running a consultation, closing 8 October.
