An announcement from Farnham Sinfonia

 

Dear Sinfonia Supporter,

Summer is still in full swing, and we certainly don’t want to wish it away, but we are already looking forward to our Autumn Concert on Saturday 3 October at 7.30pm at St Andrew’s Church, Farnham, and very much hope you will join us.  We are delighted to welcome Guest Leader Julia Wilson and two outstanding soloists: organist Geoff Tuson and clarinettist Poppy Beddoe.

Geoff Tuson will perform Handel’s much-loved Organ Concerto, The Cuckoo and the Nightingale. Handel’s organ concertos are treasured for their melodic charm and effervescent character. This particular concerto abounds in magical bird-song imagery, giving it its delightful title.

Poppy Beddoe will perform Malcolm Arnold’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2. Malcolm Arnold, one of Britain’s leading 20th-century composers and the creator of some of our best-loved film scores, wrote his Second Clarinet Concerto for the legendary jazz clarinettist Benny Goodman. This work culminates in a riotous finale that is guaranteed to bring the house down!

Associate Conductor Sasha Parker opens the concert with one of Haydn’s most upbeat and celebratory symphonies, Symphony No. 30 “Allelujah”, and Matthew Taylor brings the concert to a close with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4. Written at a time when Beethoven was in love with Therese Brunswick, this wonderful symphony glows throughout with melodic warmth, good humour and radiance.  If you would like to find out more about this most lovable of Beethoven’s symphonies, you can watch Matthew introduce Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 in greater detail in this short YouTube video:

Entry is free, with a suggested donation of £25 per person invited at the concert. Your generous support helps us to continue bringing live orchestral music to our local community. Students and anyone under 18 are not expected to make a donation.

Gift Aid declarations are warmly welcomed if you are able to make one.
